You Are Loved

Sometimes in life, we get caught up in the busyness of life and forget how much we are loved. I was reminded of this truth recently when I had lunch with a sweet friend.

When my friend prayed for our meal, she blessed the food and our conversation, and she also spoke words of gratitude to God for me, for the gifts He has placed in me, and for my joyfulness.

Her simple prayer was like a healing balm to my heart. It was unexpected and I didn’t even know how much I needed to hear those words. It was as the Lord whispered, “You are loved.”

It’s easy to forget we are loved

In that moment it struck me how easy it is to fall into the trap of believing we’re not enough—not good enough, not doing enough, not pretty enough, not thin enough, not organized enough, not fill-in-the-blank enough.

The feeling of not being enough is a lie from the pit of hell. I know this. I even teach a workshop on the topic. I encourage others not to buy this lie from the enemy, and yet here I discovered during my friend’s short prayer that I had let that distortion sneak back into my thoughts and heart.

The realization that I wasn’t seeing myself the way God sees me—and even the way that other people see me—was like a spark that jolted me back to what is true. I am loved.

Do you remember the 1987 movie Moonstruck? The scene that comes to mind is when Loretta (Cher) slaps Ronny (Nicholas Cage) in the face as she says, “Snap out of it!” My awakening moment felt a little like that—without the physical slap. Haha!

Refreshed and reminded I am loved

While we ate our salads, we talked about a half dozen different topics, as women are apt to do. It was fun, light-hearted, refreshing, and encouraging. The whole time my friend and I chatted and got caught up, God was speaking to my heart. He used this time with my friend to speak truth and life to my heart. He watered places I didn’t even know were dry. It’s good to be reminded you are loved.

Isn’t it amazing how just being around a fellow believer can refresh you? Our conversation wasn’t even focused on this issue, and yet her faith and hearing about all God is doing in and through her reinvigorated and refreshed me.

Remembering what is true

Have you allowed the enemy to speak lies to your heart, too?

It’s time for us to “snap out of it” and remind the enemy that he is a defeated foe who has no authority in our lives. It’s time to remind ourselves what God says about us, how He sees us, and how precious we are to Him— every. single. day.

What do you say? Will you join me? Let’s get out our Bibles and build ourselves up in our most holy faith!

Remember this …
He created you.
He thinks you’re beautiful.
You are the apple of His eye.
You bring joy to His heart and you bring joy to others.
You are dearly loved.
